Opening Gisèle’s Hair Salon was a dream of mine since 1976, when I gave my first haircut on my very first day of cosmetology school. I was rewarded with $20 and a beaming smile from the client for “my great cut.” Those words were music to my ears! From that moment I was struck by how my work could positively impact others…and with that a life-long passion was born.
I enjoy the creative side of my profession that allows me to be an artist, and I am constantly continuing my education to keep up with exciting trends and techniques that can better serve my clients.
Beyond the cut and color, taking care of my clients while they are at my salon is my utmost priority. I want them to feel comfortable, connected, and more than anything uniquely special. Like us all, I have faced challenges in my life that have provided profound lessons for learning. I believe overcoming these challenges and learning from them allow me to authentically connect with my clients and help guide them to be their best, and vice-versa. It has also opened the door for many incredible friendships.
Community service is a central part of my life. I believe everyone is equal and is entitled to a dignified life. So, whether I am providing free haircuts for clients at local community centers and shelters, collecting donations for varying social causes, or tending to my Salon clients, my mission remains clear – if I can give a person a little lift, make them feel good about themselves, I have completed my mission. There is nothing better than the gift of giving. Gisèle has been acknowledged for her outstanding humanitarian service by many organizations, winning awards from the Women’s Empowerment Institute, the Westchester County government, HOPE Community Services, the New York State Assembly, and HOPE Community Services.
Hair and makeup to me is all about enhancing ones’ inner beauty and bringing it out in the open for others to see. I am truly blessed to say that I love waking up each day knowing that I can and DO make a difference!!
